People use cannabis for a variety of reasons…some want to relax after a long day of work, some want to feel that high and escape the reality of life, and some use it for its healing benefits such as managing chronic pain. No matter what you use cannabis for, we are here to help! But, for the purpose of this article, we are going to talk about our story and how cannabis helped us with pain management.

Our story around pain management and cannabis

Better Buds got its start when Tina Comeau underwent several back surgeries, leaving her to endure chronic pain. When she decided she didn’t want to use opioid pain killers to treat her pain, her husband Dave started growing medical cannabis to help her. Because it helped her so much, they decided to open Better Buds with the intention of helping other people treat physical and mental conditions with the use of high-quality cannabis.

And now here they are with three locations and a growing community of cannabis enthusiasts!

So, how does cannabis help with pain?

There has been a ton of research done to determine what the medical benefits of cannabis are. Research proves that it can help with conditions such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Cancer
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Chronic pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Glaucoma
  • Irritable bowl syndrome
  • Lupus
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Post traumatic stress disorder
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Seizures
  • Sleeping disorders

So, how does it work exactly? Well, there is a lot we still need to know. But, according to research, the way the compounds, cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (TCH), within the cannabis plant interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system is what helps reduce pain and other symptoms.

How to consume cannabis for pain

If you are considering using cannabis to help treat symptoms of a medical condition or to help manage chronic pain, there are a few things to consider. You want to come up with a working strategy to effectively manage your pain.

You can consume the cannabis in one of three ways:

  • Inhalation: this is one of the most common ways to consume cannabis because the effects are almost instant. You can inhale the cannabis flower through a joint, water pipe or vaporizer.
  • Edibles: edibles have become increasingly popular for people who do not want to smoke cannabis. There are so many fun options out there now, ranging from gummies to chocolate bars and brownies. It is important to note that it can take up to two hours to feel the effects of edibles, so you should start slow so you don’t overdue it.
  • Topicals: topicals are basically creams that you rub directly on your skin to help with isolated pain and inflammation.

If you are ready to try cannabis to help treat pain and/or other symptoms, keep in mind quality is everything! You want to make sure you are ingesting the highest quality cannabis products that are grown in farms that practice organic practices to ensure it is free from pesticides and harmful chemicals.
